The ESD Material
Nowadays ESD has become a serious problem in various industries. Antistatic materials have the static dissipative function when grounding or facing with a flat conductor equals to the ground. Static dissipative materials have similar volume resistance, or cover with a conductive material, is widely used for preventing the static damage. You may notice them in cleanroom swab, cleanroom cloth, cleanroom pad for a work table and Ionizing air blower etc.
Static dissipative materials can limit the discharge current when contact with a electriferous device. According to the definition of EIA and ESDA, electro static dissipative material is that whose surface resistivity at 105~1012 Omega/Sq. The study of Bossard indicated that the surface resistivity above 105 Omega/Sq is appropriate for the protection of ESD energy sensitive devices for which usually function failure due to hot melt. Besides, the static decay rate which technically describes the ability to discharge the static from target object, is another important feature of the electro static dissipative material. In addition, the relative humidity is also an important factor in electro static decay testing, and it should be controlled and recorded.
